Project Erin Uddenberg

The PeaceJam Foundation is an international organization whose mission statement is "to create young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates who pass on the spirit, skills, and wisdom they embody." Workshops were conducted by members of the community centered around the United Nations list of humanitarian concerns and needs for the year. The workshop given was centered around the issue of empowering women and children in developing countries. Participants were taught how to sew pillow case dresses that were delivered to young girls in Kasai. Each dress also included a handwritten note by the person who sewed it. This teaches young people that in order to make a difference in someone’s life you don’t have to do something big. An item as simple as a handmade dress can bring a sense of joy and worth to young girls in Kasai by giving them an item that is uniquely their own made by someone who doesn’t even know them but cares for them.
