We were so excited to depart on our annual trip to Kasai! On July 19, 2016, 4 travelers, 16 large suitcases, 4 backpacks and 4 carry-ons filled to the brim with clothes, medicine, school supplies and the rest of the goodies you all collected made the trek halfway across the globe from Miami to Kasai. Three days later, after many layovers, we arrived in Kinchasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We were warmly received by Fr. Theo's family, who had a delicious meal ready for us.
On Saturday, July 23, after encountering many obstacles, we arrived in Mbujimaji, the closest city to the village of Mpiana in Kasai. Fr. Theo was ready to receive us and took us to an orphanage, where we fueled up with a big lunch in preparation for our 5 hour car ride to Mpiana.
